Specification Strategies To Eliminate Concrete Moisture [CANCELLED]

When: 7/21/2022 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Where:
Barton Malow Office
2322 Dunavant St Suite 100
In many projects, installation of floor finishes is one of the last items to occur prior to substantial completion.  However, within the Division 09 flooring specification sections there is the requirement to test slab moisture.  Testing is then performed just before the construction timeline calls for the floorcovering system to be installed.  When those moisture tests fail, the project faces significant time delays, unexpected costs, or both.  During this presentation we will:  (1)  give significant discussion to the importance of "design intent" and how losing focus on the owner's expectations can be catastrophic; (2)  examine several common misconceptions associated with field moisture testing, as well as building owner vs. design team liability associated with concrete moisture induced flooring failure; and (3)  we will provide clear recommendations how the specifying professional can eliminate concrete moisture as a project delivery issue while simultaneously protecting the project owner and the design team from project delays/cost overruns and future flooring failures.

Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, the design professional will be able to...
1.  Thoroughly understand the owner's design intent and how it drives project requirements and thereby shaping the product specification language.
2.  Review specific industry documents and reference standards which drive the requirement to moisture test ALL concrete slabs.
3.  Investigate the genesis of current Division 09 flooring specification language.
4.  Specify sustainable design processes that eliminate project delays due to concrete slab moisture, subsequent adhesive bond failures and all design team liability for each.
