Incumbents manage complex projects requiring licensure as a professional in an area specific to the type of project managed. Incumbents may provide turnkey project management including securing grants/funding, fiscal management, programming, planning, team coordination, public involvement, design and construction management, and planning monitoring and maintenance activities.
This position is responsible for managing the design and construction phases for building projects. The position is responsible for the preparation of or identification of and selection of Consultants to prepare building space programs and design/construction budget estimates, as well as the selection of design consultants.
The position negotiates fees for architectural/engineering design; manages and supervises the design of Government Facilities, Park and Recreational and Historic Landmarks building projects, reviews & approves design, and construction phase documents from consultants, manages the bidding phase, hires, and negotiates with construction contractors, and manages/monitors the construction phase of projects. The position may be responsible for preliminary (schematic) designs and "in-house" projects with construction documents for small projects, as well as interior material and finish selections. This position will also select furniture and prepare furniture specifications and bidding documents.
Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and four years of progressively responsible project management experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licensing Requirements: Valid Driver's License. Positions require one of the following: Licensure as an Architect or Professional Engineer (PE).
The desired profile is for an NC licensed Architect with a minimum of four years’ experience after licensure. Applicants should be able to work independently within a complex team environment and be capable of open collaboration between design consultant teams, county personnel, general contractors, the public, and other stakeholders.
