The Nominations committee will conduct interviews in late August and early September 

Open positions with terms beginning on January 1, 2021


Outreach Director (3-year term) 
Associate Director (1-year term)
Secretary (1-year term with expected progression to serve as Treasurer, President Elect, President, Past President)




The AIA Charlotte Board of Directors governs the overall execution of the organization’s mission. Principally, the Board manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs. Additionally, the Board oversees the Executive Director, who is responsible for day-to-day management of AIA Charlotte programs. Overall, the members of the Board contribute professional, management, educational, financial, and legal skills needed to ensure long term organizational stability and ensure year-to-year excellence for its membership.


The Board of Directors has 11 voting members. Officer terms are for one year or until a successor has qualified. Each elected and appointed Director shall serve a term of three years or until a successor has qualified. The elected and appointed Associate Director shall serve a term of one year or until a successor has qualified. 


Board Member responsibilities include attendance at monthly board meetings, as well as attendance at the Membership Meetings, Board retreat(s), and active electronic conversations as part of Board committees. Board members also hold a fiduciary responsibility for management of organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with the AIA’s status as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization.


Declaration of Candidacy

Board positions require a time and energy commitment that should not be underestimated. Candidates are urged to consider personal priorities for the next three years, as well as the ways to contribute to the development of the organization.


Director Candidates should possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Valid AIA Membership or Associate Membership
  • Current or past service on an AIA task force or committee, and/or active participation in an AIA-sponsored leadership program
