Nexton is a 4,500-acre mixed-use community, located at Interstate 26 and Highway 17A in

Summerville, South Carolina. Nexton is a vital part of Charleston’s expanding northern corridor,

and has positioned itself as the gateway to the Low-country.

The Brighton Park Pavilion celebrates Nexton’s proud commitment to parks, nature and a vast

network of trails that promote healthy outdoor living. The park folly straddles a multi-use trail that

will eventually connect a 50-mile network of meandering paths through wide stretches of

forestland, ponds, and wetlands.

The Brighton Park Pavilion is a fresh interpretation of vernacular lowcountry outbuildings. This

community landmark provides a shaded respite that invites runners, walkers, and cyclists to pause

and enjoy framed views of the landscape.

The simple agrarian form is expressed in the wooden slat structure to cast engaging shadows

throughout the day. At night, it glows with the quality of an oil wick lantern.

In a context with such a rich sense of place, basic elements of shade, shadow, comfort are

accommodated by a form that simultaneously feels fresh and familiar.
