#UnrealizedProject: A Day in the Life of Glass in Nature

Imagine a "day in the life" of work in a garden while being connected to your coworkers and great

amenities. The site chosen is an opportunity to take advantage both the natural setting, as well

as, access to the mixed-use development, 485, while being minutes from Uptown Charlotte and

surrounded community hubs. The proposed design takes advantage of organizing a two-phase

development around a natural "Innovation Garden" planted with regional plantings, outdoor work

areas, and outdoor passive and active recreation zones. Siting the building up on the hill allows for

views of Uptown and nature and well as visibility from 485 for brand recognition. Walking trails

and pathways lead from the site to and from the mixed-use areas just a stone’s throw away.

Collaboration and Flexibility

The building is a 5/6 story split level design terraced into the sloping site. The primary structure is

a steel frame building organized around an off-center core with large flexible floor plates that still

have great access to day light and views while fostering various work settings. The ground floor is

a little bit larger to allow for the Entry pavilion and support spaces. The building is proposed to be

outfitted with high performance building systems and exterior cladding. The outward appearance

and inward function is indicative of innovation.
