Our #Projectoftheweek is the Office Environments Renovation Project!

This 20,000 sf interior and exterior renovation required a demolition of the existing space. The goal was to reorganize the circulation pattern into an open space that would showcase products and reflect company brand and culture. By cutting into the building facade, a showroom became the focal point in a new storefront corner and natural light was harnessed. A central circulation spine capped by a continuous soffit conceals building utilities while connecting collaboration zones, quiet zones, hospitality area, conference rooms and work cafe. Exposed ceilings and ductwork mimic the industrial setting while showcasing the Steelcase product in an engineered environment.

The project was designed to illustrate the ideology of the Steelcase and Office Environments brand and culture. With an emphasis on clear circulation, the architects set the backdrop to showcase the product. A center spine creates separation and connectivity resulting in a welcoming, friendly and navigable space. This spine separates more collaborative work zones from quiet work zones, while also linking the customer Hospitality area to the new employee Work Café. The arches of the spine serve as a support to a continuous soffit while concealing building utilities The design focuses on utilizing product effectively in the built environment with minimal actual wall construction. Natural light was dramatically increased by the addition of a new exterior storefront corner creating a stage for the working showroom. New windows were also added to the Work Café. The atmosphere reflects the industrialized machined aesthetic of the company’s product and showcases it in an actual functional working environment.
