As the Housing Practice Leader, you are responsible for leading the growth of the multi-family housing sector in business development, sales, project oversight, client relations, financial management, and staff development.  You will build on Progressive AE's strong portfolio of work in developer-driven/market rate housing, Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) work, and Public Private Partnership (P3) work.

You have strong business acumen and customer focus, and are widely trusted, seen as direct and truthful, with strong integrity and understanding of others.

Through strong strategic agility, negotiating, composure, and presentation skills, you are responsible for creating strategies to expand your market, while executing highly effective and extensive outbound efforts to develop relationships with existing and new clients that will lead to new business. 



  • Demonstrate the knowledge and expertise to develop and execute a strategic plan for the growth of the multi-family housing area that differentiates Progressive AE in the marketplace.
  • Possess the knowledge and skills needed to develop business initiatives, effectively interview, negotiate, and close deals.
  • Work with other Practice Leaders to increase consistency, expand knowledge, share experiences to improve collaboration and to encourage cross-selling to meet business development objectives across all markets.
  • Be an ambassador for company-wide values and ethical standards of practice.

Staff Development/Retention

  • Support, encourage, and challenge your team members that are engaged on their projects, so they remain enthusiastic about their roles on the project and within the company.
  • Identify staff in your team who may show some business acumen and interest toward business development.  Work with your Team Leader to provide these identified individuals with opportunities to grow their skills to enhance future market expansion and possibly succession.

Project Quality

  • Stay engaged with your project teams so the overall client experience and quality of the work is maintained to ensure client satisfaction and the potential for future work.


  • Stay engaged with Team Leaders to understand the profitability of projects. Ensure that you engage with the Team Leader and team members to keep the right balance between what is promised through the contract and the expectations of the client.

Commitment to Client Service

  • Stay committed to maintaining your current clients and staying in touch with team members to ensure that clients’ needs are being met during the process of your projects.
  • Provide senior client leadership and project oversight as appropriate, including:
  • Display an excellent understanding of the client’s business drivers, capital planning process, and key performance measures as evidenced by the proven ability to be a strong internal client advocate and strategic business partner.
  • Display advanced skills at building value by tactfully opening clients’ perspectives to unseen risks, missed opportunities, and alternative creative ideas and concepts.
  • Demonstrate advanced consultative skills and consistently enhance credibility with clients by being an insightful problem-solver and a key resource for achieving client business objectives.

Marketing & Business Development

  • Work with our Marketing Team to establish yourself as a thought leader and subject matter expert in multi-family housing. Maintain an external position through national speaking engagements and publications promoting expertise and innovation in market environments. Continually look for any opportunities to share your expertise.
  • Work with our Business Development Team to determine if we should pursue a new opportunity using the criteria of our “Go-No-Go” process.
  • Ensure prompt and timely response to all proposal requests.
  • Actively and creatively identify new business opportunities and develop new client relationships along with maintaining established relationships. Listen for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated.


  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering required.  Master’s Degree, preferred.
  2. Registered Architect or Engineer holding a license, registration, or certification in your area of expertise.
  3. A minimum of 10 years of experience in areas of design or planning.
  4. You have a proven track record of identifying leads, building a network, establishing national client relationships, developing strategies, and winning work in the housing area.
  5. You demonstrate opportunities from national speaking engagements and publications efforts, and you are comfortable interacting at the highest executive levels within organizations.
  6. You have a broad portfolio of completed multi-family housing projects, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) project, developer/market-rate housing, and Public Private Partnership (P3) projects, which are relevant to the strategic goals and objectives of the market, attributable directly to the candidate.
  7. You are a recognized leader in the housing practice, demonstrated on the basis client references, project portfolio, market/industry knowledge, and your competencies.
