ARCHITECTURE IN THE CLASSROOM
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) has again partnered with the AIA to bring the profession of architecture into the classroom through interactive in class meetings with high school students who are taking architectural drafting in the fall and spring semesters. If you have an interest in volunteering your time and talents to bring awareness of our profession to high school students, we need you! The commitment is 2-3 visits to a high school class during each semester to introduce students to architecture and to help guide their approach through a specific design project.
CMS drafting teachers would like to meet with the volunteers on August 17th from 11:30-12:15. The intent of this initial teachers meeting is to make introductions and get information on the design project being presented to the students. The project involves LEED, Low Impact Development and Gentrification.
Please provide your contact information here to express interest in being a part of this important program.
Thank you in advance for your service!
This year's AIA Charlotte Design Awards seeks to honor your continued compassion, vigor, and commitment to finding unique solutions to the challenges and incredible opportunities that we face. 2020 & 2021 have been challenging and transformative years that have had a lasting impact on our lives & the way that we approach design and practice. The Pandemic, the Economy, heightened recognition of Social, Racial and Gender Equality, and immense Climate Change Challenges among others have all influenced our thinking and sense of compassion for our work, clients, and the communities we serve.
Our resilience as professionals has been exemplary and we have collectively found ways to push forward; exceeding expectations, responding to today's challenges with grace and continuing to advance design. We encourage you to dig deeper; finding the best of your work but supporting your submissions with more about the project's story and the unique challenges faced by your team. More details here.

Join us September 8 for our kickoff event for networking, a brief presentation about the Mentorship Exchange Program. For those of you unfamiliar with the program, it is a mentoring program that is not like the traditional model of one-on-one. The Mentorship Exchange concept incorporates a cross-section of the profession (students, associates, newly licensed professionals, licensed professionals and senior professionals) so it takes all levels to make the program successful.
Each group is customizable to meet the needs of its members. The goal is to provide new experiences and different perspectives for all those involved. The program facilitates a connection between the academic and professional realms of architecture.
