Daylighting and Energy Modeling: Lessons Learned from Post-Occupancy Evaluation

UNC Charlotte has long served the community by assisting in daylight design. In recent years, UNCC has also grown its service to the design community through the creation of the Center for Sustainably Integrated Buildings and Sites (SIBS), which also focuses on energy modeling and retro-commissioning activities. The goal of this seminar is to provide attendees with lessons learned from UNC Charlotte’s activities in design assistance and detailed post-occupancy studies.  Key topics include the
An overview of the history and continued work in daylighting and high-performance buildings at UNC Charlotte. Lessons learned from across the region: What really matters when it comes to achieving energy goals for new and existing buildings and where should our focus be. Understanding the impact of recent changes in the energy code for buildings in our region and lessons learned from post-occupancy studies: How can our post-occupancy findings impact the design process. Results will be presented from numerous studies conducted by the research team over the years. Findings that impact key daylighting fundamentals will be included, Side lighting, Top lighting, Glare control and electric lighting integration.
