How to Tame Your Dragon, or, How to Work with a Lighting Designer

Presenters: Andrea Hartranft and Catherine Leskowat, Hartranft Lighting Design

This presentation will focus on the the plasticity of light: it's transformative influence on volumetrics (entire spaces), and forms (from sculptural to mere texture), and its subsequent impact on perception and therefore psychosomatics*.

Attendees will be equipped to identify the multiple functions of light required in any given space.
They will understand the components of an LED system and the resulting accessibility and detailing requirements.
They will learn how the use of direct light and shadow can support their narrative.
They will experience problematic specularity and understand their choice with color rendering.
They will have a clear understanding of the components of a complete lighting design, and at what junctures this intersects with the overall design.

*the psychological impact of our physical environment and vice versa
