We invite you to attend the AIA CLT Climate Action Committee presentation on the efforts taking place right here in the queen city. Learn what drives these local efforts and how the Architectural Profession can get involved and create better buildings. The City of Charlotte's Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP) and the recently updated Sustainability Facilities Policy promote a public-private effort to reduce carbon emissions. Katie Riddle Rhodes with the City will present the recently released inaugural Benchmarking Report on City owned facilities. Jeff Austin with RExplore LLC, will provide insight into the private sector and how owners view benchmarking and the positive changes they undertake as a result of data collected from those efforts. The presentation will culminate with Vickie Breams with Little, laying out how Little's commitment to AIA 2030 affects their design process to help them produce projects that reduce carbon emissions.
|We are facing an ever growing challenge with climate change, the negative impacts are upon us and increasing much faster than predicted. Every time we turn around we hear another story of the changes happening at an ever increasing rate than what was known 10 years, 5 years, even 1 year ago. The AIA 2030 Challenge along with many municipal, private and corporate organizational efforts are striving on local, regional and multinational levels to combat the impacts of climate change.
- Gain understanding of the City of Charlotte's Strategic Energy Action Plan and the impact on overall health and welfare of the city, it's inhabitants and workers.
- Understand what the AIA 2030 Challenge is, define operational and embodied carbon and how we as architect's can aid the reduction of carbon in our atmosphere.
- Gain knowledge of data collection through benchmarking and how to use that data to create energy efficient projects.
- Understand the impacts of climate change on our professions and how the AIA 2030 Challenge and the City of Charlotte's SEAP can be used as tools to affect positive change.
