We are hiring a Project Architect in our Charlotte, NC office who will be responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client's needs. The Project Architect provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects. In this role, you will independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs and carryout complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

What you do (Duties & Responsibilities):

  • Coordinate the work of a multi-disciplined team (internal or external) throughout each step of the project
  • Participate in client meetings throughout all phases of design and construction
  • Conduct design and contract document work sessions in conjunction with other disciplines
  • Write/edit architectural specifications using independent analysis and design knowledge
  • Coordinate with Project Manager at each project milestone to ensure design quality control
  • Delegate/oversee the work assigned to an Architectural Designer
  • May perform the roles of Architectural Designer and Project Architect simultaneously
  • Coordinate with all design disciplines for timely completion of project deadlines
  • Research codes, guidelines, and regulations governing best design practices
  • Responsible for coordination and submission of all multi-discipline documents for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) approval, bidding and construction
  • Active role in construction administration including supplemental instruction generation, authoring Request for Information responses, Construction Change Directive and Change Order creation
  • Endeavor to spread CPL brand within the region/communities
  • Performs all other duties relevant to the position as required

Qualifications

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Positive attitude and highly accountable
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail
    • Technically proficient with Revit, Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and other 3-d visualization tools
    • Strong knowledge of governing codes, standards and project planning
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team, often times on multiple projects concurrently
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills over the phone, in person and via email with clients, consultants and internal teams
    • Knowledge of construction methods and materials
    • Familiarity with governing codes and standards
    • Familiarity with sustainable design strategies
    • Ability and willingness to travel as projects require

    Minimum Education and Experience:

    • Professional degree in Architecture plus a minimum of 6+ years’ related experience (3+ years in healthcare preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • AIA/RA preferred required
    • LEED accreditation is preferred but not required
    • WELL accreditation preferred
