Architectural Specifications Writer

We are currently seeking a full-time architectural specifications writer to be an integral member of our team.  This position will be responsible for writing, editing and coordinating architectural specifications and related documents, utilizing AIA/Arcom Masterspec, including customized company updates.  The specifications writer will participate in design development through bidding phases by preparing outline specifications for the design development phase when necessary; assembling project manuals for construction documents phase; and preparing addenda during bidding phase. 


Location: Candidate may elect to work from any one of the following Moseley Architects office locations: 

·         Virginia- Richmond, Fairfax, Virginia Beach, Warrenton, or Harrisonburg 

·         North Carolina- Charlotte or Raleigh

·         South Carolina- Columbia

·         Maryland- Flexible



·         7 years experience independently writing specifications for the architectural and construction industry for large institutional public sector and government projects values between $1- $100 million including both new buildings and complex renovations preferred

·         A degree in Architecture or equivalent experience

·         Licensed Architect preferred

·         LEED Accreditation and CSI certified preferred



·         Interpret architectural, engineering, and interior design plans to write, edit, and coordinate contract specifications and related documents, including MasterFormat 2012 naming and numbering conventions.

·         Write technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties based on knowledge of materials standards, construction processes, and building code requirements

·         Assist project managers with outline specifications for design development phase

·         Conduct quality reviews of construction documents while researching and preparing specifications and coordinate with ongoing design work

·         Assemble project manuals for construction documents phase.  Coordinate with technical specifications from interior design staff, LEED/sustainability staff, engineering staff and consultants

·         Determine when specification documents are complete and ready for printing, signing, sealing, and distributing

·         Assist project managers with preparation of addenda during bidding phase

·         Assist with maintenance of a technical resource library and research of methods, materials, and systems

·         Serve as a mentor and resource, while demonstrating knowledge of technical specifications and preparation

·         Foster and maintain positive professional working relationship among team members

A valid, unrestricted driver’s license and driving record, as deemed acceptable by our firm’s liability insurance carrier, must be presented and maintained.
