Nomination Process
Candidates for any award may be nominated by any AIA Charlotte member. To nominate a candidate, the nominee must fill out the Call for Nominations form and may provide any supporting documents or exhibit images. Awards
Citizen Architect Service to the Community
This category recognizes the work of architects who serve as elected or appointed officials, public administrators or institutional leaders who establish and contribute to the development of laws, regulations, policies or initiatives that promote excellence in architecture.

Eligibility
Any current member of AIA Charlotte is eligible to receive the AIA Charlotte Citizen Architect Service to the Community Award meeting the above award description criteria. Individuals who are current members of the section board, one year removed from the board or members of the awards panel are ineligible for consideration.

The S. Scott Ferebee Service to the Section Award
The S. Scott Ferebee Service Award recognizes the work of architects who, by their skill, professionalism, dedication, ability and commitment, and/or volunteer contributions have consistently advanced the common goals of AIA Charlotte.

Eligibility
Any current member in good stand of AIA Charlotte is eligible to receive the S. Scott Ferebee Service to the Section Award. Individuals who are current members of the section board, one year removed from the board or members of the awards panel are ineligible for consideration.


The Laurel Award

The Laurel Award is to recognize individuals, firms or organizations outside the profession who have made significant contributions to the improvement of the region’s built environment. Contributions may include, but are not limited to, advancement or development of laws, regulations, policies or initiatives that promote excellence in architecture; the commissioning of notable additions to the built environment; or activities that raise the public’s consciousness of the importance of excellent design in the shaping of our world and culture.

Eligibility
Any individual, firm or organization that is not practicing architecture is eligible. No more than one such award shall be made in any given year. Individuals who are current members of the section board, one year removed from the board or members of the awards panel are ineligible for consideration.

Emerging Professional of the Year Award
Established in 2013, to recognize an individual Associate AIA member or an AIA Architect member who has been registered 10 years or less who exemplifies the highest qualities of leadership and who has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to their AIA Component or region, to the design and construction industry, to the community, and/or to other professional organizations.

Eligibility
Any AIA Charlotte Associate member or AIA Architect member licensed 10 years or less in good standing. This award may be presented to more than one person in any given year at the discretion of the selection committee. Individuals who are current members of the section board, one year removed from the board or members of the awards panel are ineligible for consideration.

Firm of the Year Award
Established in 2013, the purpose of the Firm Award is to recognize notable achievements in design, community service, education, and service to the profession and the AIA by an architectural firm. Projects, accomplishments, and service submitted must reflect a period of at least 10 years.

Eligibility
A member firm (for purposes of this award) that has at least one principal/owner who is an AIA Charlotte architect member.


Sponsor of the Year Award
Established in 2013 to recognize the outstanding efforts of Sponsors or Allied members who support AIA Charlotte through contributions of financial, in-kind materials and/or volunteer resources.

Eligibility
Any non-architecture firm or Allied Member who has supported the Section in the past 12 months.

Nominated by the AIA Charlotte Board of Directors.

Honorary Membership
To honor an individual not otherwise eligible for membership who, with unselfish energy and support, has made a significant contribution to forwarding the goals of AIA Charlotte.

From Section Bylaws:
2.361 Qualifications. A person of esteemed character who is otherwise ineligible for membership in the Institute or this Section but who has rendered distinguished service to the profession of architecture, or to the arts and sciences allied therewith within the territory of this Section, may be admitted as an Honorary Affiliate member of this Section.

2.362 Nomination and Admission. A person eligible for Honorary Affiliate membership may be nominated by any member of the Board of Directors. The nomination must be in writing over the signature of the nominator and include the name of the nominee, biography, a history of attainments, qualifications for the honor and the reasons for the nomination. The Board of Directors, at any regular meeting, may admit a nominee as an Honorary Affiliate member by the concurring vote of three-fourths of its entire membership.

2.363 Rights and Privileges. In addition to the rights and privileges set forth in paragraph 234 above, Honorary Affiliate members of this Section may use the title "Honorary Affiliate of the Charlotte Section”, and shall not pay any admission fee or annual dues nor be subject to any assessment.
