Membership and participation in AIA Charlotte is open at many levels, including registered architects who are members of both the National and State Chapters of the AIA; to Associate Members of the AIA; and to allied members who are professionals in engineering and other fields. AIA Charlotte also welcomes participation in the organization by the many allied suppliers, manufacturers and service providers to the profession, as well as those members of the general public who have similar interests, through its sponsorship program.
Whether you are an Architect, Intern, Designer, or Engineer, you are invited to join The American Institute of Architects in one of the categories listed below. The AIA is a three-tiered organization. Architect members are required to join at the local, state, and national levels.
Currently licensed to practice architecture in a U.S. State or Territory. Proof of current license must be furnished to complete membership processing. Apply as an Architect member.
Not licensed to practice architecture, but meeting one of the following:
- Participate in career responsibilities recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit toward licensure (i.e., interns)
- Are under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity
- Are a faculty member in a university program in architecture
- Hold a professional degree in architecture
Apply as an Associate member.
International Associate Member
Has an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. Licensing authority. Apply as an International Associate member.
Complimentary Membership to Recent Graduates
The AIA offers a complimentary membership for all individuals for 18 months after their graduation. Apply online.
An AIA member for 15 successive years, is 70 years of age and fully retired, or incapacitated so as to be unable to work within the profession. Apply for Emeritus status.
Created to promote communication among all members of the design and construction team, individual allied membership is open to engineers, planners, landscape architects, sculptors, muralists, artists, and those in government, education, journalism, manufacturing industry, and other fields allied to architecture. Individuals must not be otherwise eligible for membership in the Institute. Purchase here.
