Home Run for Hunger

Juror's Favorite
People's Choice Award

Our design is created to not only focus on a new Charlotte landmark, the BB&T Stadium, but also show the relationship between eating healthy and being active. Our Baseball Field includes a high protein and vegetable diet of: Diced Tomatoes, Pinto Beans, Black Beans, Olives, Northern Beans, Kidney Beans and Spinach. High-protein foods are common in today’s baseball players’ daily diets. As suggested, pitchers generally need to consume around 1.5 grams of protein. Eating extra protein before or after training helps boosts protein synthesis. Exercise and physical activity benefit the body, while a sedentary lifestyle does the opposite – increasing the chances of becoming overweight and developing a number of chronic diseases. Being active is just important as what we eat. “Let’s play ball.”

Building a Better Tomorrow, One CAN at a Time

Structural Ingenuity

We seek to create a society built on a firm foundation...of cans. A foundation of cans symbolizes the aid and goodwill that we strive to achieve in all facets of our lives - a sentiment that enriches our lives while nourishing another. We will build up relationships and bring together those who need and those who have. We build with an open infrastructure that not only provides food and shelter, but allows people to collaborate at every level. It is in the spirit of goodwill that we build this structure of cans to provide aid and encourage a partnership with the entire community.

da planes, da planes…..

Best Meal

How far have we come over the past years regarding air travel? Planes are a mainstay with us, from their origins as an invention, to the modern day jet airliner. We have used planes to cross the oceans, as a means to break the sound barrier, to fight the enemy, etc… but most of all, they transport us to faraway places in a short time, so we are able to work harder, play harder, and relax harder than ever….. And longer than before.

Sit back and enjoy your flight………………….

Roby Commercial Division, for ‘supporting’ us again, with actual supports. The 2 planes have to stay up somehow……and wires are not practical…

Art CAN Feed the Soul and Belly

Honorable Mention

This year we are inspired by the Arts! Piet Mondrian’s simplistic yet compelling de Stijl paintings bring us back to the basics with primary colors, and line-square-rectangle. In our office we value Art and Culture as a vital part of our Architectural endeavors. We believe that Art can feed the soul and instill happiness and comfort. We take this one step further and strive to communicate that Art has the power to make a positive change with our construction of a playful cube of colors and cans that will be sure to feed many hungry bellies!

Have You Heard the Buzz?

Honorable Mention

Our CANstruction pays homage to the rebellious hearts and minds that define our city and gave rise to its nickname, “The Hornet’s Nest.” From the 1775 Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence to the return of our favorite mascot, here’s celebrating Charlotte’s past, present, and future revolutionaries.
